Tutoring

The GT Scholars tutoring programme is designed to support young people with improving attainment in English or Maths. Scroll down to find out more.

Can tutoring really make a difference?

Yes. Research from the Education Endowment Foundation has shown that highly effective one-to-one tutoring for a period of one year, can accelerate academic progress by up to 5 months in a year.

How does the tutoring programme work?

All GT Scholars are placed on an accelerated learning programme in Maths or English depending on the subject that requires more support. Scholars work one-to-one with a DBS-checked tutor and have weekly online tutoring sessions as part of the programme.

Which topics are covered?

Tutors conduct a one-to-one start-of-term assessment and work with scholars to determine which topics should be covered within that term. This ensures that tutoring sessions are personalised and tailored to each student. Tutors also follow topics from the exam board syllabus for students in Year 10 and above. Tutoring sessions also involve homework that must be completed in time for the next session.

How long are the sessions?

All tutoring sessions are one-to-one and are approximately 1 hour long. In each term there are 10 x 1 hour tutoring sssions.

Where and when do sessions take place?

Tutoring sessions are conducted online and usually take place on weekday evenings and weekends, depending on your tutor’s availability.
