The 1-to-1 MENTORING Pathway

1-to-1 Mentoring for Confidence, Agency & Drive

Move beyond “good grades” to greatness. Give your child a dedicated role model to build the self-efficacy, career clarity, and leadership habits required for top-tier academic and career success.

Is your child coasting when they should be climbing?

High academic potential does not always translate to high performance. In a school environment focused purely on curriculum delivery, “soft skills” like goal-setting, resilience, and time management are often overlooked.

Without a clear roadmap or a role model to guide them, many bright students drift—lacking the drive to push for top grades or the vision to aim for competitive careers.

The Solution: Turning Aspirations into Attainment
Our 1-to-1 Mentoring Pathway is not a remedial fix; it is an accelerator.

  • Building Self-Efficacy: Backed by research from the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF), we know that mentoring improves self-efficacy—the belief in one’s own ability to succeed. We provide the personalised accountability your child needs to take ownership of their future.
  • The Roadmap Effect: Research confirms a critical paradox: most students already have high aspirations, but “wanting it” isn’t enough. The gap lies in having a roadmap. While tuition focuses on academic processing, our mentoring focuses on behavioural alignment, ensuring your child has the strategy to match their ambition.

Who is the 1-to-1 Mentoring Pathway for?

Please Note: To maintain the integrity of this programme, we do not accept new scholars directly into 1-to-1 mentoring. Priority places are offered to scholars who have completed at least one term with us and demonstrated genuine motivation. This pathway is for:

The High-Potential Drifter

Who has the ambition and intelligence but lacks the organisational skills, consistency or drive to execute their ideas.

The Unsure Explorer

Who is overwhelmed by a-level options, university choices or career paths and needs a roadmap to clarity.

The Future Leader

Who is already doing well but needs “stretch” goals and a competitive edge for Oxbridge or degree apprenticeships.

The Mentoring Transformation

Current State (Without Support)

Passive Learning

“Waiting to be told what to do rather than taking initiative.”

Low Resilience

“Giving up easily when subjects get difficult or grades drop.”

Career Confusion

“Vague ideas about the future but no plan to get there.”

The GT Scholars Result

✓Empowered Leadership

Taking full ownership of their academic schedule and results.

✓Unshakable Confidence

Developing the “Non-Cognitive Skills” required to stand out in interviews.

✓Strategic Clarity

A clear, step-by-step plan for university or career entry.

The Research Reality

“Grades get your child to the interview door,
but character gets them the offer.”

At top universities, everyone is smart. The students who succeed are the ones who have the confidence to debate in seminars and the resilience to handle the intense workload without burning out.

Research by the Sutton Trust confirms that these “non-cognitive skills” are often the deciding factor in success at top-tier universities. Our mentoring builds that mental toughness so they don’t just get in—they thrive.

GT Scholars 1-to-1 Mentoring
“

“At the end of the programme, I could see that it was a massive benefit to have someone to rely on and talk to. Mentoring helped me understand my own behaviour, how I act towards other people, and showed me how I could improve myself. Jason is quite possibly the best mentor I could have had, and I can say that with wholehearted confidence.”

Watch your child step into their potential.

Have you ever wondered what might be holding your teen back?

Through 1-to-1 mentoring, you could help your child transform their self-belief and find clarity and direction—even if they are currently shy, even if they have no idea what they want to do in their future, and even if they feel “average” compared to their peers.

What our scholars say…

  • It was difficult at the beginning because you already have so much to do at school, and it feels like you don't have time, but you actually get used to it. I've moved up a set in my French and my Maths. I'm actually looking forward to my GCSEs!

    Abi, age 15
  • I've learned that learning means you have to push yourself...no one can make you learn...It's a bit like sports...If you don't push yourself, you won't get better...I'd say I have improved because I'm making more of an effort, and I'm better at organising my time and my homework.

    Shaun, age 12
  • It's a good programme...you start to see that actually you are quite clever...because now in class I understand things and I don't get worried when we have a new topic because I know that if I just focus I will be able to understand it.

    Gabrielle, Age 11
  • I started with GT Scholars in Year 8, and back then, I thought of myself as an average student. By Year 11, I found myself in the top set. I ended up getting mostly 8s & 9s - basically some of the best grades in my school for my GCSEs. The support has been phenomenal.

  • My tutors really helped me improve in Maths.
I was initially predicted a 5 for my GCSE Maths... I didn't think I could do better than that.
I ended up getting a 7, which I am extremely proud of.

Mentors who set the standard.

We are incredibly selective. Our mentors are not just “buddies”; they are high-achievers drawn from top universities and competitive professions.

A Highly Selective Process

We actively scout and recruit mentors who demonstrate a rare combination of emotional intelligence, leadership, and the power to inspire.

Safeguarding First

Every mentor is enhanced DBS-checked, personally interviewed, and fully trained in the GT Scholars methodology.

True Role Models

Your child will work with a high-achiever who has navigated competitive environments and understands the mindset needed to succeed.

Who thrives on this pathway?

We do not select based on current grades. We select based on attitude.

This IS for your child if...

  • They have ambition

They want to do well and achieve high standards, even if they don't know how to get there yet.

  • They are coachable

They are willing to listen to feedback, try new strategies, and move out of their comfort zone.

  • They believe in "More"

They feel capable of achieving more than their current school reports or predicted grades suggest.

This is NOT for your child if...

  • They are being forced

The desire to improve must come from them. We cannot mentor a child who does not want to be here.

  • They want a "quick fix"

Building autonomy and study skills takes time. This is a development programme, not a cramming session.

  • They are unwilling to change

If they are not open to adopting new habits or routines, the GT Scholars framework will not work.

FAQs

[1-to-1 MENTORING]
  • Is the mentoring conducted online?

Yes, all mentoring sessions take place on our secure online platform. This allows us to connect your child with high-level professionals from across the globe, ensuring they aren’t limited by their local geography when seeking world-class career and academic advice.

  • What are the benefits of mentoring? Will mentoring improve my child's grades?

Mentoring is not subject tutoring. However, by improving Metacognition (study skills) and Focus, most scholars see a natural lift in grades as a byproduct of better habits.

While a tutor focuses on specific subject mastery (like UK GCSE Maths or USA AP Biology), a mentor focuses on the “big picture.” They help scholars with goal setting, time management, and building a growth mindset. For scholars considering US Colleges, mentors are particularly helpful in navigating the holistic admissions process that goes beyond just test scores.

  • What backgrounds and qualifications do your mentors hold?

Our mentors are graduates and professionals recruited from some of the UK’s most competitive universities and industries, including medicine, law, finance, technology, and engineering. Every mentor goes through a rigorous selection process that assesses not just their academic record, but their emotional intelligence, communication skills, and ability to inspire. All mentors are also enhanced DBS-checked and fully trained in the GT Scholars Success Habits Framework™ before working with any scholar.

  • How do you match a scholar with a mentor?

We look at your child’s career interests and academic goals. If your child is interested in a career in tech or finance or is considering studying in the USA, we aim to pair them with a professional who has global experience or who has navigated that specific industry and educational path.

  • Can we get a mentor in our first term?

We give priority to scholars who have been on one of our programmes for at least one full term, and scholars that have consistent attendance and participation. We want to gain all of the benefits of being mentored, but this can only happen for scholars who are genuinely committed to their growth.

  • What is the time commitment required for the 1-to-1 mentoring pathway?

If you’re on the 1-to-1 mentoring programme, you’ll typically have 6 hours of mentoring over a 12-week term. Your mentor will work with you to arrange weekly sessions (30 mins per session) or fortnightly sessions (1 hour per session).

  • What happens if the mentor match isn’t quite right?

We will initially select the mentor based on a detailed profile of your child. We’ll ask as many questions as possible so that we get a good match from our pool of mentors. However, if the chemistry isn’t right in the first few sessions, we will rematch you with a new mentor.

  • Can mentors help my child prepare for UK University & US College applications?

Yes. Supporting international university ambitions is a key strength of our mentoring programme. Our mentors have direct experience of applying to and studying at leading UK universities, and many have professional networks in the USA. They can help your child build a competitive university profile, craft compelling personal statements, prepare for admissions interviews, and develop the strategic clarity needed to navigate highly competitive application processes – whether the target is Oxbridge, Russell Group, the Ivy League, or other top-tier institutions.
