Creativity is essential as it stimulates your child’s curiosity and it encourages them to find unique solutions to challenges. Get involved in the activities below to help your child learn how to think outside the box!

Get Creative!
Coming up on Saturday 18th May, ArtFix presents a Day in the Life! This event will be jam-packed with a range of activities that will encourage your young ones to unleash their creative spirit! The day will include lots of interactive activities including photography workshops, exhibitions, colourful installations and performances. This free event is ideal for 11-16 year olds that want to have some creative fun. Find out more here.

Music Magic!
This exciting event at the Southbank Centre is a real treat for young people who are into classical music. Join one of the UK’s leading contemporary ensembles at this exciting Open Studio. On Saturday 18th May your 15 – 18 year olds will get to participate in a workshop with internationally recognised composer Michael Price, testing and developing new methods. The evening will be rounded off with an exhilarating performance from the orchestra. Tickets are £5. Find out more here.

Fun at the Film Festival!
As part of the Birkbeck Arts Week, on Monday 20th May your teens can join in on some film fun as they watch short films produced by the students from the Birkbeck University. There will be a variety of activities such as performances, spoken-word and discussions in addition to the films that will be showcased throughout the day. This free event is ideal for 15-18 year olds who are keen to find their feet in the film industry. Find out more here.

Almost everyone has access to a camera these days. This creates so many career and skill-building opportunities for young people. From photography to film and TV to online media and YouTube, there are many industries that young aspiring photographers and filmmakers can make a career in. Here are a few opportunities for their skills to shine through.

BBC Work Experience
Each year the BBC welcomes over 1,000 people in their work experience programmes. These are two-week opportunities for young people to understand how things work in several different departments of the BBC, including television, news and journalism, radio, and business support. The programme is open to young people aged 16 and over and applications are currently open for placements that are available in March, April & May 2018. Find out more here.

Childnet Film Competition 2018
This annual film competition invites all young people aged 11-18 to take on the challenge of creating a short film. The competition also gives young people the opportunity to harness their creativity and share their understanding of online safety issues. This year’s theme is Connect with respect – a better internet starts with us! Competitors will be provided with resource packs including storyboard templates, guides to filmmaking and other useful documents to help them make their films. Find out more here.

iPhone Photography Awards
The iPhone Photography Awards has been celebrating the creativity of iPhone users since the first iPhone. Since then every year, the IPPAWARDS has selected the best shots among thousands of images submitted by iPhone photographers from more than 130 countries around the world. Winners are selected by the jury members in several steps and The Photographers of the Year and the category winners prizes awarded. Entries are open to photographers using an iPhone or iPad and the deadline is the 31st of March 2018. Find out more here.
