Friends of GT Scholars – Let’s make a difference this July!

It’s finally Friday!! And the international sports scene is slowly returning – Football is back in full swing, Formula 1 came back last week and tennis is making a return this August! It’s definitely bringing about some hope of a return to normality... even if the stadiums are empty! But if sports is really not your thing, maybe you could try out one of the volunteer opportunities in this week’s newsletter.

Our Scholars talk to BBC News!
Exciting times! The BBC News recently wanted to talk to young people about their learning at home experience during the pandemic. They’ve selected 3 of our scholars to interview! We’re really proud of them and we can’t wait to watch these interviews when they air! I’ll definitely share more details with you as soon as I can! Speaking of interviews, it’s almost the end of the term and if you’d like to nominate your tutee or mentee to feature in our scholar spotlight interview series, please let me know.

Could you connect us to parent and youth networks?
Online education might soon become the more favourable option for many parents who don’t feel ready to send their children back to school in September. We’ve been working on a couple of new online programmes and concepts that go beyond tutoring and mentoring. I’ll be sharing more information on these programmes soon. But in the meantime, I wanted to find out if you know of any parent and youth networks who would benefit from our online tutoring, mentoring, and skill-building opportunities? Please let me know by sending a quick email.

There’s still so much to do to improve social mobility
Did you catch the latest news following the Social Mobility Commissions review? I saw an article in the Independent earlier this week, and the review found that compared to 2012, there are now 600,000 more children living in relative poverty. This is a huge problem that must be tackled and unfortunately, it’s highly likely that these challenges will affect their future chances in life. If you’d like to support a young person, then please get in touch. We’re starting the new term in September and we’re always looking for new tutors and mentors to join us in making a difference.

Have a great weekend!
