Are you a young person aged between 11-16? Are you interested in being an entrepreneur, running a business or working in the corporate field? Do you live in an inner or outer London borough? Then the Dragon’s Den Challenge 2018 is for you!

Entrepreneurs are innovators and job creators who launch startups that bring ideas to life, drive economic growth and expand human welfare. It is with this in mind, that we encourage young people to embrace entrepreneurship as it can assist in practical skills such as being creative, negotiating, communicating well and critical thinking.

Why is this so important?
Barclays Business Banking ran a poll and results showed that 42% of UK school children wanted to start their own businesses. These are very promising results because entrepreneurship is not only essential to the growth of an economy, it is about job creation, elevating the standard of living through innovation as well as being a viable and lucrative career path for young people.

In order to give young people a taste of what it takes to be an entrepreneur, we are hosting a Dragon’s Den Challenge based on the world-famous TV show. This will involve them coming up with a business idea in a specific amount of time and pitching it to a judging panel. This will provide them with hands-on experience in entrepreneurship while teaching them simple business principles, teamwork, presentation skills, and effective time management.

What will this day involve?
The programme for the day will include:

  • Introduction to entrepreneurial skills
  • A workshop on how to develop and validate a business idea
  • A masterclass on pitching and presentation skills
  • Coming up with a business idea or product
  • Creating a pitch or presentation
  • Pitching the idea or product to a judging panel
